Police launch DUI checkpoint program

The Philadelphia Police Department has launched a new drunken-driving enforcement program that will continue throughout the remainder of 2014.

On random Friday and Saturday nights, officers from the Accident Investigation Division will set up DUI checkpoints at undisclosed locations throughout the city. Checkpoints will last from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. The first checkpoint occurred last Friday.

The DUI enforcement detail is meant to provide a safer environment for the community and ensure the public’s awareness of the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. ••
